Fall Technical Courses

DEP Approved Water Treatment and Wastewater Operator Program
For the fall 2006 semester, CBI is offering a comprehensive water and wastewater operator course on the Main Campus and in Monroe County beginning August 21. Specialized Diplomas
Specialized diplomas in Electrical Construction, Indoor Environmental Control (HVAC), Machinery Repair, Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Automation (PLCs) and Welding are beginning in August. Courses may be taken independently or collectively towards the completion of the diploma program. For a course tabloid, please contact Carol Frace.

Six Sigma Green Belt
CBI Technical is offering a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification course beginning September 14, designed for professionals who want to learn to understand, interpret and use the core concepts of Six Sigma to make better business decisions. The course features black belt instructor led discussions, lectures, group presentations and exercises focusing on process improvement and variation reduction. Fee includes textbooks and student edition of Minitab® software. The course will meet 6:15-9:30PM until December 14. Fee for the course is $995.

10-Hour OSHA Training
This course provides training in safety and health topics pertinent to general industry, with an emphasis on hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. Introduction to OSHA, Electrical, Walking/Working Surfaces, Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plans are a few of the topics covered in this course. The course will meet Thursdays, September 14- October 5, from 6-9PM . Fee for the course is $150.

Macintosh Courses
CBI Technical offers a Macintosh computer courses on the Mac OS Operating System and on the Adobe® Design Suite. For the fall 2006 semester, courses will be available on the following topics:

-Mac OS Introduction beginning September 9
-Mac OS Intermediate beginning October 7
-Adobe Illustrator beginning September 5
-Adobe InDesign Layout & Design beginning September 14

Expanded Monroe Computer Courses
Monroe computer offering now includes QuickBooks and Access courses. Additional courses available for the fall semester include Get To Know Your Computer, Basic Computer Applications, Word & Excel Level 1 and Internet Basics.

Access Application Development
Go beyond the standard queries, forms, and reports. Use the VBA language to take full control of your database. Learn how to make your database interactive with your users. Design intelligent forms and reports. Create a query without using the query grid. The course will meet Monday and Wednesday evenings, November 15-December 20 from 6:30-9:30 PM . Fee for the course is $493.

Distance Learning Courses in Industrial Process Heating

This distance learning program is the result of collaboration between IHEA and ETAC/NCC to translate the IHEA home study course to a distance learning format, making it more readily available to members and non-members alike in an increasingly popular educational delivery method.

Advanced Industrial Process Heating
Designed to compliment the fundamentals course. This course will provide the student with an in depth view of the control and efficient operation of industrial process heating equipment. Focus will be on a variety of oven, furnace and kiln types used in industry. The students will gain a general knowledge of instrumentation and control for efficient operation of furnaces and ovens in process heating. They will learn about the wide variety of refractoriness and insulation used in process heating equipment, as well as their operating considerations. The use of vacuum heat processing, recuperators, regenerators, gas atmospheres and quenching will also be presented. Particular attention will be spent on efficient operation of process heating equipment and methods to achieve cost savings.

Fundamentals of Industrial Process Heating
Designed to provide an overview of combustion fuels, burners and control basics, and heat transfer in both combustion and electric furnaces. This course will help the student gain a basic understanding of heat transfer principles, fuels and combustion equipment, electric heating, and instrumentation and control for efficient operation of furnaces and ovens in process heating.
