“The Leadership Development Institute at NCC informally tries to "partner" with organizations, helping them if they do not have a corporate university inside by accomplishing the same thing as a corporate university. We want to be the first one they call when they have a project that requires external support. We also want to work with them to figure out what they need and alternative ways to get it.

ETAC-PENNTAP-Penn State McKeesport Partnership Recognized for Pollution Prevention, Energy Conservation

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Dominion awarded the Western Pennsylvania Environmental Award 2006 to the ETAC/PENNTAP Partnership for its outstanding service to Western Pennsylvania companies in helping them achieve and maintain pollution prevention methods and practices that “promote economic growth focused on environmentally sustainable business practices and energy conservation” as quoted by Roger L. Price, Senior Technical Specialist, PENNTAP. Most recently, the Partnership was awarded the Most Valuable Pollution Prevention Partner Award by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable.

In October 2005, Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Trexlertown, PA , took a new academic approach to the venerable training and development efforts of the corporation. The 66 year-old global provider of atmospheric and specialty gases, performance materials and chemicals re-directed its fragmented approach to administration and delivery of training programs around the world by creating a global corporate university.

Despite the frantic pace at which we all live our lives, there can be great value in making time to step back, separate ourselves from the headaches of the moment, and reflect on what is really important; what really matters if we want to build sustainable companies. It is an important investment that does not come without a sacrifice of the moment. We are not talking about becoming monk-like or going away on a retreat, just committing an hour or so occasionally to think about what is critical to enabling your business or your family or even your life to have the most meaning and attain the most significant results. Yes, easier said than done, but it is an investment in the long term.

Do what it takes! Simply a worn out cliche? Not at all, according to our clients. In last September's issue we discussed how our Industrial Maintenance Institute delivered 'anywhere, anytime' skills training to such distant firms as Lockheed Martin, ImClone Systems, Bristol Myers Squibb, M&M Mars, and US Steel. When clients receive this type of accommodation coupled with high quality training, they come back for more. The roster of clients outside our traditional marketing area continues to grow with these companies experiencing this same type of service:

WEDnet PA Guaranteed Free Training (GFT) Program Continues

For many, the summer months are a time for re-charging one's “inner battery,” reflecting on the next program year, and basically rejuvenating the spirit. However, for the staff at Northampton Community College 's Business Training Resources, this is the busiest of times. The 2005-2006 WEDnetPA Guaranteed Free Training (GFT) program officially closed on June 30, 2006, with final invoicing continuing until July 31. Applications for the 2006-2007 GFT program were also being accepted, with July 15 as the application deadline. Oh, where did the summer go...

Northampton Community College Receives $1.2 Million Economic Development Federal Grant

Northampton Community College (NCC) has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) to fund the establishment of a workforce development training center on the southside of Bethlehem. The investment is expected to create jobs and provide training for 1,650 area residents and to generate $30 million in private investment. The announcement of the award was made by Carlos M. Gutierrez, Secretary of Commerce for the United States.
