(Continued from Front Page) Fairchild Semiconductor, located in Mountaintop, PA, is a design plant for high quality power semiconductor devices. Its processes require stringent temperature and humidity control and a highly skilled workforce to maintain that facility. After unsuccessfully searching local colleges and trade schools that would accommodate their training needs and schedule, they then turned to our Industrial Maintenance Institute. As a result, IMI is doing what was required to meet their needs, providing in-depth, cost-effective training in heating, ventilating and air conditioning to thirty technicians twice weekly from 5pm to midnight. Delivered at their site seventy miles away from the NCC campus, the twenty-eight week program is tailored to conform to some very stringent union safety rules. The instructor has considerable experience and up-to-date knowledge working in a similar industry and environment, so there has been an immediate connection made with the students.
Johnson & Johnson's Pharmaceutical Sourcing Group Americas (PSGA) operates a 200,000 sq. ft. sterile manufacturing facility in Raritan, NJ , nearly fifty miles from NCC's campus. The facility contains process utility equipment, formulation, filling and lyophilization areas, air handlers and electrical equipment. PSGA recognized an urgent need to train its maintenance staff to work more safely. Targeting shop safety first, they called upon the Industrial Maintenance Institute to provide hands-on training in safety using a wide range of fabrication repair equipment. Led by an instructor with decades of experience both in machining and classroom machine shop training, 64 maintenance personnel completed the training in their machine shop using their own specific tools and equipment. PSGA is planning to return soon for more technical skills training.
Lutron Electronics in Coopersburg, PA is the world leader in lighting control. Known for innovative products, Lutron hires the best and brightest in order to maintain its competitive edge and leadership position in the field. With sophisticated programmable lighting systems in facilities around the world, Lutron's field service technicians must be competent installers and effective problem solvers. A true advocate of training through its Lutron University, the company has turned to the Center for Business & Industry to build upon the existing IT knowledge of its technicians with electrical troubleshooting knowledge. Lutron asked that training be delivered flexibly in two stages. Beginning with a basic level for production supervisors, facilities maintenance and field service technicians, the course then followed up with an advanced level for the field service technicians only. Lutron plans to repeat this type of training periodically as technician schedules permit.
